India's most haunted place
While some feel an adrenaline rush exploring haunted places, others
prefer to stay away. India, the land of thousands of untold stories,
has its own share of eerie destinations.
Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan
The Bhangarh fort was built by the Kachwaha ruler of Amber, Raja
Bhagwant Singh, for his younger son Madho Singh in 1573 AD. Madho
Singh’s brother was the celebrated Man Singh, who was Akbar’s
general. Madho Singh was succeeded by his son Chatr Singh. It was
Chatr Singh’s son Ajab Singh who built the fort of Ajabgarh.
Bhangarh Fort is located in Alwar district of the royal state of
India. Situated at the borders of the famous Sariska Tiger Reserve
in the area, surely the name of Bhangarh Fort is not for those
with faint hearts. Listed as one of the Most Haunted Place in
India, and the world, it can give you goose bumps just by its mere
tale, forget a glimpse.
You should not visit Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan1. There are warning signs all around Bhangarh Fort
The Archaeological Survey of India clearly say it again and again
that it is prohibited to stay within the environs of Bhangarh
before sunrise and after sunset. There have been quite many
incidents of getting lost and even deaths in the area
2. Entry in Bhangarh Fort is banned for foreigners
3. The houses in Bhangarh are roofless!
4. Ghostly Sighting
Delhi Cantonment, Delhi
As per the stories, a woman clad in white often hails motorists
for a lift on the stretch. She then chases the ones who do not
give her a lift, running at a speed that equals or is more than
their vehicles!
As for those who oblige and give her a lift, they are never seen
again. Stories doing the rounds speak of a lady who was killed
while hitchhiking her way to some place; she has now returned as a
ghost.
Though it is quite difficult to fathom why she chose to go
hitchhiking in a white saree, and if she didn’t, then, kudos to
her for sticking to the official garb of the ghost.
De Monte Colony
A wealthy Portuguese businessman-prince first founded a settlement
here. A devout Christian, De Monte lived here with his wife and
owned several acres of prime real estate in what are some of the
poshest areas of the city today.
Among his estates were locations such as Moubray’s Garden, and
several areas that are now posh areas like Greenways Road and
Madras Club. De Monte was an extremely wealthy man during most of
his lifetime. He was also credited with having constructed the Our
Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Covelong (Kovalam), where he owned
a weekend home. But as with every good horror story, there are no
happy endings here!
At the end of his life, De Monte entrusted all of his properties
to the care of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore. Over the years,
the lands were leased to a number of holders.
However, the fact that it is abandoned means that hooligans and
anti-social elements have been attracted, who perhaps pose more of
a threat to night-time trespassers than ghosts.
Motorists who want to escape the traffic on the main road during
the day drive through the colony. Karthi, one of the labourers
living in a hut, says, “We are usually away during the day and
return after work. We’ve never experienced any disturbance at
night.”
As a sign of hope, there is some talk of developing it, though the
details of this move are still unclear.
Madras Christian College
A student at Madras Christian College committed suicide at Heber’s
Hall after being rejected by his lover. How tragic! There have
been rumours of taps being left open, strange laughter and
furniture moving on its own at night.
Valmiki Nagar, Kottivakkam, Chennai
Avoid visiting the most haunted places in Chennai and one of the
most haunted places in Chennai is this house in Valmiki Nagar on
Ambedkar Road. The place is around 15 km from Chennai airport.
The father of a woman who committed suicide in the house itself
owns it. The abode has been haunted for 10 years since her
death.
The ghost of the daughter has been living in the house years
after her death. She opens the house for the visitors post
midnight and offers all the hospitality a guest is supposed to
get.
People have actually, many a times, heard a girl sobbing from
the windows of the house. When they walk past, mobile signals
stop and the screen starts to flicker. The girl has often been
spotted closing the door in the darkness of early morning.
