    Kumbakonam Degree Coffee Recipe is the perfect filter coffee made in Tamil Nadu. Kumbakonam Degree Coffee – The making of this coffee is much similar to our usual filter coffee recipe except for a slight variation in method and making which elevates the taste to the next level.

The process of making this coffee is so divine because when the filter coffee powder is being brewed to get the decoction, the smell that one get is rich and soothing.

It is often referred to as the “Kumbakonam Degree Coffee” in which the degree refers to the thickness of the milk used to make the coffee.

Kumbakonam degree Coffee is served in brass tawara tumbler in shops.


Steps to Make Kumbakonam Degree Coffee

Preparation Time : 10 mins | Cooking Time : 15 mins | Serves : 2 to 3

  1. Put required teaspoons of sugar in a dabara. 
  2. In a brass or stainless steel filter, add powdered coffee. 
  3. Pour hot water heated to 110 degree into the filter and close. 
  4. Collect the first decoction and keep it warm by placing in a tub of hot water. 
  5. Pour 10 to 15 ml of decoction over sugar. 
  6. Add milk, (preferably fresh) till it flows onto the saucer. 
  7. Swish coffee once and drink hot.

Key Points to Follow in making Kumbakonam Degree Coffee

  • good quality filter coffee powder should be chosen correctly
  • As we double boil the milk, malai starts forming so its better to always strain milk and then serve.
  • Once the decotion is added to the milk, do not overheat. If you want to heat then place the coffee tumbler inside a container which has boiling water.
  • We can take even 2 decotion by adding in little more water once the 1 st decotion is taken and used. The 2nd decotion is not very strong.
