Your laptop / Desktop computer keyboard not working? Try these tips to pinpoint and fix the issue before you think of replacing the entire keyboard.
The following are the reasons which cause your keyboard not working :
- Bad hardware driver
- Dirt and dust present in the keyboard
- Wrong regional settings
Ways to fix Computer Keyboard not working problem
- Restart the computer
- Remove battery and power adapter
- Clean the keyboard
- Update the Keyboard driver
- Turn off "Use Sticky keys" and "Use Toggle Keys"
1. Restart the computer
Try restarting the computer, don’t shut down, but restart. Your laptop could be hibernating when you press the power button and something ‘weird’ could have happened that is causing the keyboard to not respond.
2. Remove battery and power adapter
Shut down the computer and remove the battery and power adapter. Wait about 3 minutes and plug everything back in. Now check whether keyboard working fine or not.
3. Clean the keyboard
Clean the keyboard with a can of compressed air. You might have a staple, paper clip or some other piece of metal that is shorting out some of the keys and causing it to stop working.
Now Turn on the PC / Laptop and start working using the keyboard.
4. Update the Keyboard driver
- In the search box on the taskbar, type device manager, then select Device Manager from the list of results.
- In the list of hardware categories, expand the Keyboard option and click on the available keyboard driver name.
- Right click on the keyboard driver name and select 'Update driver' option
- Select "Browse for drivers on your computer" option
- Select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on your computer " option
- Click on the keyboard driver name
- Click Next button
- Close the dialog and it will show Restart option
- Click Yes option
After restarting your keyboard not working issue will be fixed successfully.
5. Turn off "Use Sticky keys" and "Use Toggle Keys"
Follow the below path and turn off the "Use Sticky keys" and "Use Toggle Keys" options
- Click on the windows icon
- Select Settings option
- Choose Ease of Access option
- Select Keyboard option
- Turn off "Use Sticky keys" option
- Turn off "Use Toggle Keys" option
